Faced with a large deficit in school funding in West Tisbury, up-Island school committee members agreed to cut $166,000 from the district budget at a somber meeting Monday marked by heated debate. But the cuts fell short of what is needed, and the committee meets again Thursday.
As the Gay Head Lighthouse begins its relocation, a similar, if much smaller, move is being prepared. The original Gay Head lantern will be moved from the Martha’s Vineyard Museum’s Edgartown location to Vineyard Haven.

A Cape and Islands business association has named Holly Bellebuono as their entrepreneur of the year. Ms. Bellebuono, who owns Vineyard Herbs, Teas and Apothecary, is the first Vineyarder to receive the SCORE small business award.
The Gannon and Benjamin boatyard on the Vineyard Haven harbor was the scene of a festive launch Monday for a new design created by the venerable wooden boat yard. The Sheldrake is a gaff sloop daysailer and Nat Benjamin’s 85th original design.
