The Town of Edgartown is accepting applications for the position of Health Agent. This position works under the general oversight and direction of the Board of Health in accordance with State, Federal and Local laws, rules, and regulations.

The Health Agent’s work consists of the practical application of a variety of concepts, practices, and specialized techniques relating to a professional or technical field in the areas of public health and environmental protection.

The employee may be required to work outside of normal business hours and/or on weekends in response to emergencies, special events, or to attend various board or committee meetings.

Educational and experience requirements: Bachelor of Science Degree in Public Health or Biological Sciences or related field; three to five years of experience in public health with at least two years in an administrative capacity involving State environmental or public health code inspections and enforcement; including the State sanitary code, on-site wastewater disposal, solid waste disposal, air and water quality; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certifications or licenses required: must hold or be qualified to take the exams for Registered Sanitarian or Certified Health Officer, Certified Soil Evaluator, Certified Septic System Inspector, Lead Determinator, Food Safety Manager certification and hold a valid driver’s license.

Must have bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration or related field and 5 years of progressively responsible experience in accounting. Salary $125,000 +/-, commensurate with experience. The Town Accountant will perform the duties and responsibilities of the Town Accountant as defined by Massachusetts Geneal Laws, including administrative and supervisory duties, technical accounting, financial, and computerize functions in maintaining the municipal accounting system and other reporting and related work required in discharging the duties of the office. The Accounting Department is part of the Finance Division under the supervision of the Finance Director who serves as Treasurer and Tax Collector. The operating budget is $38 million dollars. TRANSPORTATION PLANNING

The Martha’s Vineyard Commission (MVC) is now accepting applications for transportation planning internship positions in the transportation department for the Summer 2024 season (May/June to August 2024). Responsibilities include the installation and retrieval of traffic counting equipment, management of the traffic count database, preparation of summary reports and office support, and conduct turning movement counts at select Martha’s Vineyard intersections and businesses, as part of the Regional Transportation Planning Process and Local Technical Assistance Program.

Most planning internships require some relevant coursework in the planning field along with an interest in the planning profession and relevant planning specifications. Depending on the nature of the intended workload, some organizations are more rigid than others regarding qualifications for interns. Applicants must have reliable housing on-Island, a valid motor vehicle operator’s license and access to a reliable vehicle to perform field work as well as the ability to lift objects up to 50 lbs. Applicants willing to work in a team environment and one with strong computer skills are desirable.
