Girls' lacrosse picked up two decisive wins in a row this week, paving the way for a week of interleague competition as they defeated Coyle & Cassidy and Pembroke.
The team beat Pembroke 14-7, a victory made particularly sweet by the fact that the girls had lost 13-9 to the Titans. Sophomore goalie Sam Hargy came out strong, stopping three hard shots early in the game. The Vineyard scored three goals in the first four minutes, and led 6-4 at the half before pulling away in the final portion of the game. Senior captain Charlotte McCarron led scoring with four goals and one assists. Hayman notched three goals and three assists, and senior captain Issy Smith scored three goals and one assists. Junior center Emily DeBettencourt was crucial on the draw, while junior Aubrey Ashmun and sophomore Molly Houghton anchored the midfield. The Vineyard zone defense of Alex Clark, Katrina Lakis, Olivia Ogden, KC Wallace and Emma Yuen shut down the Pembroke attack throughout the game.
Smith led the team in scoring during the Vineyard's 13-2 rout of Coyle & Cassidy on Tuesday, scoring 4 goals and landing 3 assists.
The team is now 4-7 on the season. They will travel to Eastern Athletic Conference opponent Bishop Feehan Monday before returning for a home contest against Bishop Stang Tuesday. Game time is at 3 p.m.
