The track and field squads hosted their first Eastern Athletic Conference dual meet Wednesday afternoon, taking on Somerset Berkley. Though both squads fell to the Raiders, several athletes posted times and distances qualifying them for the end-of-season state meet. Senior co-captain Jeremy Alley-Tarter, last year's division four state champion in the 800-metre run, will defend his title after taking first in Wednesday's race with a time of 2:05.6. Earlier this season, Alley-Tarter qualfied for states in the mile run.
Junior Kevin Montambault qualified for the 110-metre high hurdles with a time of 17.14, and junior Sabrina Reppert earned a states spot with a throw of 96' in the javelin.
The teams took on EAC opponent Coyle & Cassidy last Thursday, with the boys falling 71-61 and the girls taking a 82-54 win as they notched first-place spots in ten events. Senior captain Kat Dorr was first in both the triple jump (31'3.5") and the 400-metre dash (67.9 seconds). The Vineyarders swept the long jump and went 1-2 in the mile, 800 metres, 400 metres, and two-mile.
The boys' side also saw a sweep of the long jump, with freshman Ennis Foster, sophomore Chase Sylvia and senior Joe Turney going 1-2-3. Turney took first place in the javelin, and was a member of the first-place 4x100 metre relay team.
Last Saturday the younger members of the squad traveled to Notre Dame Academy to compete in the annual Freshman/Sophomore Meet. Freshman Whitney Schroeder turned in a standout performance in javelin, taking second place in a field of 47 with a throw of 88'11". Freshman Olivia Smith took third place in the 400-metre hurdles with a time of 1:13, and sixth place in high jump (4'9"). Chase Sylvia also had a good day in hurdles and high jump, taking fourth place in the 400 hurdles (1.05), and placing eighth in the jump (5'3").
The teams travel to Barnstable following April vacation for a league meet. Both squads are 1-2 on the season.
