White on white in West Tisbury. Timothy Johnson

Thursday, February 12, 2015

The snow is piled high along Island road and blankets the field. The harbor is filled with ice. Another blizzard heads our way. It brings to mind these words from C.S. Lewis: “I wonder if the snow loves the trees and fields, that it kisses them so gently? And then it covers them up snug, you know, with a white quilt; and perhaps it says 'Go to sleep, darlings, till the summer comes again.'

The Coast Guard and shellfishermen continue their work on frigid water as we all wait for warmer days. Hunker down inside and enjoy a tour of the icy Island from Tim Johnson's point of view.
