Red Cross Slates Workplace Safety Seminar

The American Red Cross, Cape Cod and Islands chapter will has scheduled a workplace safety informational seminar for Sept. 26 in Hyannis.

The seminar will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at the Four Points by Sheraton Hyannis Resort at the West End Rotary.

The Red Cross has organized this seminar to help all business owners or those in charge of workplace safety stay abreast of the latest developments in first aid and emergency cardiovascular care, and its impact on the way first aid, CPR and other emergency care is delivered.

The session is designed to inform businesses how to obtain training for their employees to give them the confidence and the life-saving skills to respond to emergencies.

Continental breakfast will be provided. Attendance is free but advance registration is required by calling 508-775-1540, extension 12 or by sending an e-mail to kwhiting@cape.com.

Forum Will Explore Renewable Energy

Renewable energy, especially ocean-based technology, will be the focus of the first meeting of the Southern New England Enterprise Forum, which is scheduled for 5 p.m. Sept. 13 at the Advanced Technolology and Manufacturing Center in Fall River.

The event is scheduled to begin with a networking clambake. U.S. Cong. William Delahunt is a potential speaker. The event also will include a panel discussion moderated by Greg Watston, state assistant secretary for clean energy. Scheduled participants include Jay Fiske of the Massachusetts Green Energy Fund and John DeVillars of Bluewave Strategies. More networking will follow.

The Fall River center is backing the forum. Future meetings will address topics such as raising money and building businesses, sales and marketing for a new company, product development and building a management team.

Westmeadow Press Announces Poetry Contest

Westmeadow Press of Martha’s Vineyard is sponsoring a
contest for a book titled Poems for Vineyard Kids that is scheduled to be published next summer.
The contest is open to writers who live either full or part-time on the Vineyard. Poets may submit up to five poems for consideration.
The poems can be funny or serious, rhyming or free verse, and should
take for their subjects some aspect of Vineyard life, such as the ferry, the fair, fireworks, the Flying Horses, the beach and life on an Island. The audience is children ages four through 12.

Send the poems to P.O. Box 4338, Vineyard Haven, MA 02568. Include your name, address, phone and email
address. The deadline is Oct. 31. Please include a self-addressed stamped envelope. Poems will not be returned.

Poets whose poems are selected for publication
will receive credits in the book, as well as a free copy
