The street sweeper has been by the house a few times, and has been in and around the school. The maintenance men were out sweeping the sidewalks and making sure all looked beautiful. For the first day of school, everyone is hustling.

Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. The new list will be out this week and I will list you all next column.

Special balloons go out to Erika Bettencourt who celebrated her day August 27.

The beach gang celebrated Labor Day in a grand way. We all brought either lobsters or steaks for the grill. Kenny and Jen Abbott brought fresh tuna and seared it for all to share. The day was beautiful and the sky was its bluest. The biplanes were showing their stuff. Everyone was happy. No one wanted to leave and as the sun went down Ian Murray and his visiting friends got out the guitars and provided us with some great music.

We stayed until 7:30 p.m. and rumor has it the last people left at 10:30. It was a great day and no one wanted it to end. We all know it is not yet the end of the beach days. Still, we know that our schedules now have changed and of course when the Patriots games start, there will be times when some of us will not be there.

There is little news this week. But I’m sure once the fall starts there will be lots of activities going on. In the meantime, watch the roads as the children are riding their bikes to school.

Remember to fly your flags high on Tuesday, Sept. 11 as we hold our heads high while we remember those who lost their lives or their family members on that date six years ago.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
