An open house at the former Denniston House on Masonic avenue in Oak Bluffs is scheduled during the Arts District’s Art Stroll on Saturday, Sept. 15 from 4 to 7 p.m.

The public will be able to meet the architects and members of the design committee who are renovating the property, which now will be known as Bradley Square.

Closed for two generations and in a state of disrepair, the Bradley Memorial Church and the land around it was purchased by the Island Affordable Housing Fund in order to restore the building, creating a multi-use cultural space downstairs while designing affordable residential units in the Denniston family quarters above.

The building was the first African American church on the Vineyard.

The Island Affordable Housing Fund and Island Housing Trust announced that a volunteer design committee will be working with the architects of the project, Hutker Architects, to design the project.

The land underneath the affordable housing will be put into the housing trust, guaranteeing that the homes stay affordable in perpetuity.

The Island Housing Trust’s executive director, Philippe Jordi, is overseeing the development of the project. The Island Affordable Housing Fund’s executive director, Pat Manning, is supervising fundraising.

More information about the project is available by calling the Housing Fund’s office at 508-696-0943 or visiting islandaffordable.org.
