Hobbit in Edgartown

It’s Tolkien Week, and the Edgartown library is celebrating the stories of J.R.R. Tolkien, creator of the Hobbit books and the Lord of the Rings trilogy, through Sept. 23.

The library will screen an animated version of the Hobbit story at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 18, in the children’s room. This film is suitable for third-graders and up.

The week’s big event is set for Saturday, Sept. 22, when the library hosts Bilbo and Frodo’s Birthday Party from 7 to 9 p.m. The party is for Tolkien fans in seventh grade and up, from across the Island. Costumes are encouraged, and there will be prizes. On the program are an indoor scavenger hunt, trivia games and tall tales, a Lost in the Marshes game, good food and a few surprises. Come to the secret side door.
