Learn how people around the world are using prayer for healing. National speaker John Adams brings his experience to the Island Thursday, Sept. 27, at 7:30 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Society in Vineyard Haven. With illustrations from his personal experience, Mr. Adams will show how anyone can use thoughtful, intelligent prayer to improve their health and advance their happiness.

Mr. Adams says, “There is nothing that compares to the moment of healing, of realizing God’s actuality and one’s innocence as His child.” Mr. Adams shows how the healing experience can have a direct impact on families, neighbors, friends and communities. He believes anyone can use the power of prayer, regardless of religious and social background, and invites people of all faiths and interests to listen to his talk. He refers to this event as an ecumenical encounter, a meeting of friends. There will also be an opportunity for people attending to ask their own questions.

Mr. Adams is a full-time prayer-based healer using the Christian Science system of healing. His talk is titled, Does Christian Science Really Heal Sickness and Sin? He will discuss the original source book on Christian healing, the Bible, along with Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy, a book of universal ideas on practical spirituality.

As a teenager, Mr. Adams moved to New York city to pursue an acting career, studying with Lee Strasberg and Herbert Berghoff. A few years later he was healed of a serious drug habit by reading the book Science and Health. This experience changed his life, and he is now a member of the Christian Science Board of Lectureship.
