Tribal Lifelines: Honoring Wampanoag History, Culture and Music will be presented on Saturday, Oct. 27, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Wamsutta Club in New Bedford (at the corner of Union and County streets). This is sponsored by the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth as the library associates’ fall event. Admission is free. Parking and refreshments are available. Edith Andrews, a member of the Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head (Aquinnah), will present the history of the Wampanoag culture. Edith is a tribal elder and the repatriation officer. She serves on the cultural and historic commission and on the constitution committee. Ronald Perry, spouse of Aquinnah Wampanoag Patricia (James) Perry, will perform traditional and contemporary Native American flute music and discuss flute making traditions and embellishments.

The temperatures have remained in the sixties throughout the week. Perhaps Albert Fischer will have to reconsider his last swim of the season, which he took on Sunday. The weekend also looks rather promising with high temperature despite the predicted fog and rain.

With the warm temperatures comes the migration of the deer populations as well. Please dress with bright orange on yourself, your children and your pets during the archery season, which began this week and will run until Nov. 24. The weigh-in station at the tribal office is open during the week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.

Alice Fredericks of Connecticut recently visited her daughter Lauri Bradway and Steve Yeomans at their Aquinnah home.

Congratulations and all the best to Jeffrey L. Madison, who has joined the law firm of Wynn and Wynn. He now will have an office at 15 Church street in Tisbury.

Condolences to the family of Herbert Marden Sr., who passed away in New Bedford this past week. Services were held for him on Saturday. He is survived by his sister Anna Monteiro, brothers Leroy, Willard and Lloyd, seven children, 15 grandchildren and his extensive tribal family.

Denis and Brooke McKillop returned to Gig Harbor, Wash., on Tuesday after spending the weekend with her cousin Berta Welch and her family.

Condolences to Jennifer Caton Randolph and her family in the loss of her grandfather, Alfred McMullen, on Friday. Services will be held for him this weekend in New Bedford.

Douglas Plumer, executive producer of Replica Productions in Manhattan, was at his Aquinnah home over the weekend while planning his next film project.

John Wightman’s photography show at the Beach Plum Inn on Sunday evening was well-attended by many Vineyarders. The favorite of the show was the new giclées of the Aquinnah Cliffs which previously have been highlighted by a piece of wampum shell and now are accompanied by an Aquinnah clay piece in the shadow box and signed by Gladys Widdiss as well as by John Wightman. As the Howwasswee Trading Post will be closing soon for the season, one may find this treasure at Island Art (formerly Kennedy Studio) at 66 Main street in Tisbury. Douglas Johnson and Uta Kirchlechner will be glad to assist you in time for the holidays.

Happy 27th anniversary wishes to Vern and Berta Welch on Oct. 25.

Happy birthday wishes this week to Bud Mayhew as he celebrates today. Stella Winifred Hopkins also celebrates her special day today, as does Louis Belain. Clyde Phillips will party on Oct. 20. Paul Mendelson will observe his special day on Oct. 21 as will Barbara Gentry, Joseph Lee (who now will be 15 years old), Nancy Campana and Chantal Booker (who will be 12 years old). Pearl Yvonne Vercruysee will party on Oct. 22. Christopher Belain parties on the 23rd. Isaac C. Taylor will reach a major milestone on Oct. 25.

Gladys A. Widdiss will celebrate her special day on Oct. 26, sharing the day with Sen. Hillary R. Clinton who will observe a major milestone.
