I love it when the sun is shining and there is a cool breeze in the air. It rejuvenates you and means the time has come to get the winter clothes out and bring in some wood for the fireplace.

Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. I was in the cleaning mode yesterday and accidentally threw away the birthday list. Polly Davies is always to my rescue, however, so look for your name next week.

The storm was the big news of the week. It is okay when you can sit in the house and weather it, but listening to the scanner we have to appreciate our police and fire departments, the communication center, and NStar. I am sure that there are many more people who helped. The whole day was “tree down” and “sparking wires” and that was all you heard until Bobby Brown called in with “something new”: an argument downtown. So even though we may take them for granted, we should thank our emergency and utility workers once in a while.

As I have said before, I feel that big windstorms are Mother Nature’s way to clean up the trees and she is someone not to trifle with. Not only that, but the harbor was filled with white caps. We took a ride through town on Sunday. The harbor was as calm as a sheet of glass, with the sun the boats reflecting in a once-turbulent sea.

Remember that Veterans Day is observed on Monday. Even though we think of it as a day off, keep in mind those men and women who are protecting our country so we can enjoy the day off.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
