The Permanent Endowment Fund for Martha’s Vineyard, the Island’s community foundation, made grants to 14 nonprofit organizations for a total of $28,000 in October, chairman Deborah L. Hale has announced.

The foundation provided a grant to Martha’s Vineyard Museum to support the development of an American history course curriculum for high school. Development of the new course work will be done in collaboration with the Vineyard school system.

“The planned curriculum development will use the museum’s collection of Island historical materials as a centerpiece,” Ms. Hale said. “Using the Island’s history as an entry point for better understanding the country’s past is just one more example of how this community is interwoven.”

Support was also provided to the Rising Tide Therapeutic Equestrian program, which serves approximately 30 young people and adults who are physically or mentally challenged. The grant will enable the program to operate on a year-round basis.

In addition to these grants, awards were made to the Visiting Nurses Association, the YMCA, Windemere, Strawberry Fields Childcare Center, The Yard, Hospice, Martha’s Vineyard Community Services, Featherstone Center for the Arts, Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School, the American Legion Post 257 and the Martha’s Vineyard Community Hospital.
