Teacher an Unsung Hero

Dr. Elaine Weintraub, a teacher at Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School, has been named an Unsung Hero by St. Michael’s College in Colchester, Vt.

Matthew Seklecki, a graduate of the high school and now a student at St. Michael’s, nominated Ms. Weintraub for the award.

“I had Dr. Weintraub for two courses during my high school career,” Mr. Seklecki said in a written release. “She was one of the best teachers that I had during high school. She was able to teach to all kinds of students and make them learn using many different approaches.

“I worked with her and two other students on a campaign to raise awareness about the genocide that is occurring in Darfur, Sudan,” he stated. “Over the past few years, I have become great friends with Dr. Weintraub. She truly values education and strives to make all students learn and achieve.”

St. Michael’s selected 38 unsung heroes from high schools throughout New England, based on nominations from the college’s students.
