First, I would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year. My New Year’s resolution is to figure out how to take care of my computer when it goes haywire. It usually wins but eventually I get it back where I can work it.

Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day these past few weeks. Big balloons go out to Isabella Branlon and Anna Keenan who celebrated their day on Dec. 23; Zachary Vukota on Dec. 24; Katherine Dourian and Zachary Wannamaker on Dec. 25; Arthur Castro, Molly Pogue, Paige Pogue and Spencer Pogue on Dec. 26; Emma Herrick on Dec. 27; Connor Donnelly on Dec. 31; Kylee Willoughby on Jan. 1; Jacob Lewis on Jan. 2; Emily Gazzaniga on Jan. 3; Michael Habekost and Matthew Morris on Jan. 4; Gino Chick on Jan. 5, Mikaela Lawson on Jan. 6; Hanna Persson and Jacob Pertile on Jan. 7; and Ethan Donovan who celebrates his day today, Jan. 11.

Special wishes to Tom Sharkey and Glen Searle whose day was Jan. 1, Nola Mavro whose day was Jan. 3, and Mary Ellen Kresel who celebrated her day Jan. 10. Happy birthday to Jack Laird, son of John and Dee Laird, who celebrated his day Jan. 9.

There was a special birthday for Susan Brown who became a grandmother on New Year’s Day. Mathew Jeremy Miller was born Jan. 1, weighed 7 pounds, 1 ounce and was 20 inches long. Susan is very excited and will be going to Wilton, Conn., to visit.

The Edgartown School eighth grade will be holding its second annual silent and live auction Friday, Feb. 1 at the Oyster Bar and Grill on Circuit avenue in Oak Bluffs. You can purchase tickets at the school or at the door.

As you know, Island life can be busy or however you want to make it. So being at home for the next few weeks while the nursery is closed, I decided to change myself so I called Gretchen Wean Bassett and made an appointment at A Hair Affair. Best thing I have done in a long time. The ladies were delightful and very friendly and after a few hours I walked out a new woman. I did feel a little old as I walked out and talked with Mary Bergeron, who I use to give cheese to when she was in the grocery cart shopping with her mom Beverly when I worked at the A& P deli a long time ago. Now she is going to be a mother.

Also while there I was in the chair next to Denise Guest. She informed me that their daughter Gillian was home from Perkins School for the Blind for the Holidays. Gillian has been very busy socially as she has been to the prom twice and she is also a cheerleader. Gillian is very happy to be home with Pa and and brother Alexander.

Our condolences to the Morgan family on the passing of Bob Morgan. Bob was a devoted townsman and family man and will be missed by many.

If you have any news, please call me. Let me know about trips, visitors or births of babies. We love to read some good news.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
