The Vineyard Conservation Society Winter Walks Program will feature a guided walk at Thimble Farm in Tisbury on Sunday, Jan. 13 at 1:30 pm. Andrew Woodruff, an Island farmer with 25 years’ experience, will lead the walk.

The 40-acre property is the home of the Island’s first Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) operation and was recently the focus of successful efforts to keep community supported agriculture at Thimble. Andrew began the CSA in 1993. Since then, the original 30 members, who buy seasonal shares of fresh weekly produce, have grown to more than 400 families. The farm uses only sustainable methods of land management that are allowed to organic farmers.

Thimble Farm includes nearly 40,000 square feet of greenhouses and 33 acres of prime agricultural land with 18 acres in vegetable and flower farming. Thirty-seven acres are protected through a restriction held by the Martha’s Vineyard Land Bank.

Thimble Farm is near the blinker intersection. The farm can be reached either from Stoney Hill Road or the Chicama Vineyards Road. Watch for VCS signs.
