For the second time in five months, the Dukes County commission has named finalists in the ongoing search for county manager. They are F. Tenney Lantz of South Dartmouth and Russell H. Smith of Aquinnah.

After ticking off minor business items in a meeting Thursday afternoon, the commission went into executive session to discuss applicants for county manager.

The search to fill the position began last August when county manager E. Winn Davis vacated his post. An initial search ended in December, after the commission interviewed three finalists, with a decision to readvertise for the position. County treasurer Noreen Mavro Flanders has been acting county manager since August.

On Feb. 22, the commission stopped accepting applications. They received nine: three from Martha’s Vineyard, one from Connecticut and the rest from Massachusetts.

On Thursday, the commission reconvened in open session to announce two finalists for the position.

Ms. Lantz is the chief operating officer and director of administration with Girl Scout Council of Southeastern Massachusetts. She also practices elder and Medicaid law in Dartmouth. Mr. Smith is the legislative liaison for Martha’s Vineyard. He was also a finalist in the December search for county manager.

The commission set a tentative date of Saturday, March 22, at 3 p.m. to interview the applicants.
