All five of this year’s Oscar nominees for best animated short film — including the winner, Peter and the Wolf, plus a bonus offering — are on the big screen for Island movielovers this Saturday, March 29 at 7:30 p.m. at Katharine Cornell Theatre on Spring street in Vineyard Haven.

This program includes:

I Met the Walrus, from Canada, is a five-minute two-dimensional animated documentary in English set in 1969, when 14-year-old Jerry Levitan snuck into John Lennon’s hotel room with his tape recorder and persuaded him to do an interview.

Madame Tutli-Putli, also from Canada, is a 17-minute silent Claymation/computer generated images drama about a timid woman who boards a mysterious night train and has a series of frightening experiences.

Meme les Pigeons Vont au Paradis (Even Pigeons Go to Heaven) is a nine-minute French computer generated images drama with English subtitles, in which a priest tries to sell an old man a machine that he promises will transport him to heaven.

Moya Lyubov ((My Love), from Russia with English subtitles, is a 27-minute drama set in 19th century Russia, in which a teenage boy in search of love is drawn to two very different women.

Finally, the Academy Award winner for 2007, Peter and the Wolf, from the United Kingdom and Poland. A 27-minute drama based on Prokofiev’s classic musical piece, about a young boy and his animal friends facing a hungry wolf.

The entire program of animated short films lasts 85 minutes and is unrated.
