Edgartown’s town election will be held Thursday, April 10 at the Baylies Room of the Old Whaling Church. Polls are open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Eleven positions on the ballot are uncontested, with no nomination papers returned for the board of health. In addition to the race for a selectman’s seat between challenger Robert Fynbo and incumbent Margaret Serpa, a five-year seat on the town planning board also will be contested.

Voters further will be asked to decide on four spending questions, first scheduled for vote at Tuesday’s annual town meeting: $220,000 to continue funding the town dredge program; two questions for a total of $230,000 for various repairs to town streets and sidewalks; and $65,000 for the town’s share in a regional housing authority expenses.

Incumbent planning board president Robert Becker, a carpenter who has sat on the board for five years, will go up against Robert Cavallo of the Edgartown Paint Shoppe.

“Sometimes I have really made a difference, and we have achieved a better result than what is originally prepared,” said Mr Becker this week, of his time on the board.

At a debate last week, organized by the League of Women Voters, Mr. Cavallo stated that he is interested in public service. He could not be reached for comment this week.
