Ecological Eating: New

Discussion Group Begins

Menu for the Future is the title of a new discussion group at the Vineyard Haven Library. The group workshop is designed by the North West Earth Institute, the source of the previously successful library programs Choices for Sustainability and Voluntary Simplicity.

The group will explore the connection between food and sustainability beginning April 23, to coincide with Earth Day. The group will run for six weeks ending on Wednesday, May 28. The cost for the workbook is $20. You can sign up online or at the desk. Workbooks will be available at the desk about one week before the class begins.

The titles of the sessions are: What’s Eating America? (ecological and economic impacts that have accompanied the changes in how we grow and prepare food); Anonymous Food (the historical shift from family farms to industrial organics); Farming for the Future (the emerging food system alternatives, small farms and urban food production); You Are What You Eat (the influences that shape our choices and food policies); Toward a Just Food System (issues of hunger, equity and Fair Trade); Choices for Change (the benefits of choosing local, seasonal food).
