The French comedy-drama Le Heros de la Famille (Family Hero) is this weekend’s offering from the Martha’s Vineyard Film Society, screening Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Katharine Cornell Theatre in Vineyard Haven.

A lively ensemble film, the action is triggered by the untimely death of Gabriel, who spent four decades running a decaying Parisian cabaret where he also had a drag act. His friend Nicky, a magician at The Blue Parrot, is sure he will inherit the club and plans to keep it going. His hopes are dashed when Gabriel’s will awards the business to his children. Now in their thirties, they plan to sell up and move on.

The cast includes such French icons as Catherine Deneuve, Emmanuelle Beart, Miou-Miou and Claude Brasseur. It has drama, comedy, music, magic and an amusing ghost story, as Gabriel visits his friend Nicky, imploring him to save the nightclub.

The 107-minute film is not rated; it is in French with English subtitles.
