Bethany Alane Brown of Newport, R.I., married Richard James Villa 2nd of Chilmark on Sept. 22 at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Edgartown.

The Rev. Robert D. Edmunds, assisted by the Rev. David A. Pople of St. Thomas Church, Bethel, Conn., officiated.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alan G. Brown, Bethel, Conn.

The bride’s Island roots go back through her father, her paternal grandparents (the late Rae Booker Brown and the late Elmer Graham Brown), and great-grandparents (the late Walter and Marjorie Booker) formerly of William street, Vineyard Haven.

The bridegroom’s parents are Julia Pickwick of Ipswich, and Mr. and Mrs. Marc R. Villa of Chilmark.

The reception location was held at the Villa residence, Howell Lane, Chilmark.

The wedding trip was a cruise to the western Caribbean.

The couple met in 2002 while working at David Ryan’s in Edgartown on the Island.

The bride attended Bethel High School in Bethel, Conn. and the University of Connecticut in Storrs, Conn.

She is advertising and events coordinator at Bowen’s Wharf Company, Newport, R.I.

The bridegroom attended Kents Hill School, Kents Hill, Me. He is an honorably discharged member of the U.S. Marine Corps. At present, he is a tugboat captain at Constellation Maritime Corp. in Boston.

The couple will reside in Newport, R.I.
