The Martha’s Vineyard Transit Authority will shift to its expanded, in-season schedule starting Saturday, May 3. The schedule will be in effect through Monday, Oct. 13.

Despite the rise in fuel costs, the transit authority at this time is not increasing its cash fares or pass prices.

“The VTA is aware that both residents and visitors face rising costs, whether they are in home heating fuel costs, the price of gasoline for their cars or a gallon of milk. The VTA does not foresee any immediate change in fares and pass prices to give our customers an opportunity to save money on their transportation costs,” stated authority administrator Angela Grant in a release.

“We hope new customers take advantage of the VTA bus system, as well,” Ms. Grant stated. “Even switching some trips from cars to the bus will have a positive impact on people’s wallet, the environment and help reduce congestion.”

System route maps with timetables are available free of charge. Unlimited travel one-day, three-day and seven-day passes are available for sale on board authority buses, at the authority’s operations and maintenance center in the Airport Business Park, at all Steamship Authority terminals, and at the Edgartown Visitor Center.

Annual passes and 31-day passes only are available for sale at the operations center and the Edgartown Visitor Center.

During the peak season, bus ticket sellers will be stationed near the buses at the Steamship Authority terminals in Vineyard Haven and Oak Bluffs.

Unlimited travel passes prices range from the $6 one-day pass to the $100 calendar year annual pass. Children six and under ride free. Seniors age 65 and older and disabled passengers are eligible for a 50 per cent discount off fares and passes.
