Congratulations to Jesse Wiener, a senior at Harvard University, upon his completing and submitting his thesis in music. He has been informed that he will graduate magna cum laude. Jesse, son of Carolyn Feltz and Jerry Wiener, is a 2004 graduate of Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School. Over the past two weekends, he has been the director of Sweeney Todd which was produced and performed by Harvard students. He was also the music director for Sweeney Todd. Thirty members of Jesse’s family and their friends attended the performances.

The shad are in bloom, there are a few herring in the run, the osprey are circling above as they search for those small striped bass below, lilacs are budding, and town meeting is upon us, which begins at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 12. The polls will open for you to cast your vote on Wednesday, May 13 at noon and will remain open until 7 p.m. Chilmark Store opened on Thursday so we will once again have pizza up-Island.

The Aquinnah Public Library is having story hour on Saturday mornings through the month of June. If you would like to stop by with your children, they will have a great time.

Paul Benedict has arrived for the summer at his Aquinnah home. He has spent part of the winter residing down-Island. While here, Paul attended Sweeney Todd in Cambridge as an admirer of Jesse Wiener since the day of Jesse’s birth.

Sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Paul Bergeron who died April 29 at Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. Paul was a cousin by marriage and I enjoyed his frequent visits to Aquinnah during the summer of 2007 and the many happy times over the past three decades that we shared. A memorial service will be held on May 17 at Oak Grove Cemetery in Oak Bluffs.

Joseph Bozyczko, his wife Vicky and their children Michael, Mikayla and Matthew of Holliston were at their Lighthouse Road home during the school vacation. They enjoyed their daily bicycle rides across Aquinnah while they were here.

Congratulations to Anita Vanderhoop Keegan who won a new home in the Jenney Way development in Edgartown. She will be right around the corner from her mother, Gloria Fisk, and her brother Lenny. Needless to say, it will only be a five-minute commute to her work at Edgartown National Bank.

Welcome home to Carl Lofaro, who has been serving in the U.S. Army. He has just arrived safely back to Fort Stewart, Ga. after serving 15 months in Iraq. Carl is the son of Jan Lofaro and spent his childhood summers at their family home in East Pasture.

Frank Scott and his wife Linda attended parents weekend at Dartmouth College this past week. Their son Matthew, a freshman at Dartmouth, was the co-director of the Dartmouth musical production over the weekend. The Scott family had a wonderful time attending the festivities.

Ed Stall has returned from his annual trek to Maui for the winter. He is looking well and is back to tending his goats on Lighthouse Road.

Condolences to the family and friends of Andrew Steele of Chilmark who died April 30 in Falmouth. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Albertha Steele, his daughters Abbie and Susan, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at the West Tisbury Congregational Church on May 17.

Congratulations to Joshua Tucker and his wife Priscilla who were also lucky recipients of a new home in Jenney Way.

Jeffrey Duarte will be 16 years old on May 13 and shares the day with Beverly Evans and Ed Belain Sr. Steven Garvin Sr. and Sophia Welch share the day on May 14.
