The Martha’s Vineyard Cancer Support Group has scheduled its fourth annual spring benefit event, An Evening Under the Stars, for Thursday, May 15 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Mediterranean, 52 Beach Road, Vineyard Haven.

This gala celebration for the support group is hosted by Mediterranean restaurant owners Doug and Leslie Hewsen. The event is sponsored by the Martha’s Vineyard Savings Bank and also supported by donations from Island businesses and individuals.

Drinks and a wide selection of hot and cold hors d’oeuvres will be served throughout the evening. Music will be provided by Mike Benjamin. Parking is available at the restaurant, across the street at Hinckley’s or next door at the Tisbury Shell Station.

The Martha’s Vineyard Cancer Support Group is in its 22nd year helping Vineyarders in two very important ways. A support group meeting is scheduled for cancer patients and their families every Wednesday at noon at the Martha’s Vineyard Hebrew Center in Vineyard Haven. The group also provides financial assistance to Island cancer patients in need. Since 2000, the group has given away over $150,000 to Vineyard families. The support group is run by a volunteer board of directors; there is no paid staff. All funds raised go directly to Vineyard families living with cancer.

Tickets can be purchased in advance by mailing your check to Martha’s Vineyard Cancer Support Group, P.O. Box 2214, Vineyard Haven MA 02568 or at the door on the evening of the gala. Admission is $100 per person.
