Peru: Panoramic Studies

Featured in Library Show

Artist Valerie Sonnenthal will present a series of photographs taken in Peru’s Sacred Valley in 2007 in an exhibit scheduled for the Chilmark Public Library.

The public is invited to an artist’s reception at the library on Saturday, May 24 from 3 to 5 p.m. The show will run through June 13.

All are panoramic assemblage studies for large-scale installations. Though presented here as flat, the series of photos are generally made for 360-degree viewing.

Ms. Sonnenthal began exploring images in the round, translating the experience of a fixed point of view, taking photos in a circle, when she first moved to the Vineyard in September 2006. The pieces vary in length from three to eight feet of connected eight-by-10-inch images.

The exhibit is scheduled Mondays, Tuesdays and Saturdays from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Wednesdays from 10:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Thursdays from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. and Fridays from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
