Jenney Way Receives
Four houses at Jenney Way in Edgartown recently received a top environmental designation from the U.S. Green Building Council.
The council certified the houses at the platinum level of its Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, or LEED, program. They became the first single-family affordable housing with permanent price protection in the United States to receive the designation.
Jenney Way is a cluster of 10 houses built for Vineyard residents earning from 70 to 140 per cent of the area median income. In addition to other energy-saving, low maintenance construction included in all 10 houses, the four houses that received the council’s platinum have solar electric systems.
The Jenney Way project was designed and built by South Mountain Company Inc. of West Tisbury, developed by the Island Affordable Housing Fund, and is now owned by the Island Housing Trust.
