On Thursday, June 19, Slowfood Martha’s Vineyard will hold its monthly potluck supper from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. This meeting will focus on planning the group’s summer’s highlight event, a potluck community gathering featuring keynote speaker Michael Pollan.

Mr. Pollan is the author of several books which examine how the human and natural worlds intersect, through food, agriculture and gardens. His 2006 book The Omnivore’s Dilemma examines how our eating choices affect our own health, and the health of our global environment. His most recent work, In Defense of Food: An Eater’s Manifesto, explores the notion that most of us are no longer eating “real food,” around a dinner table. His premise is that we return to the table, enjoy one another’s company and, as he writes, “Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.”

Please bring a dish to share, including a local ingredient if possible, and your own place setting.

The potluck will be held at Jan Buhrman’s in Chilmark, off of Middle Road. Take Middle Road for 1.4 miles and look for a mailbox on the left which says Hewing Field. Take this left and follow the road to the end, her driveway. Please RSVP at 508-360-4491.
