Why didn’t anyone think of it sooner? The first annual Aquinnah Music Festival is shaping up for July 19, from noon to moonrise in the circle atop the cliffs of Gay Head, on Lighthouse Road.

The folks at WVVY (FM 93.7), Martha’s Vineyard’s new community radio station, are putting together a festival beginning and ending with the Wampanoag tribe’s drummers, the Black Brook Singers. In between will be the rock bands the Billionaires, Kahoots and Amazing Baby, singer-songwriters Joel Zoss, Willy Mason, Jemima James and Sofi Thanhauser, as well as rap act Rig1, country group the Rose Hips and bluegrass players Ballywho.

Martha’s Vineyard Community Radio is a nonprofit, low-power freeform station committed to great music and to nurturing our exciting local music scene. WVVY is known for eclectic, diverse music, and the festival will be no different,

The grassy circle at the cliffs is shaped like a natural amphitheater, providing an ideal place for an outdoor concert. Tents will be set up with organic food by Daniele Dominick of the Scottish Bakehouse/Che’s Lounge, and there will be beverages, merchandise and activities for kids.

Advance tickets are $20, available online at aquinnahmusicfestival.com. A sampler of performers on mp3 format is available online at wvvy.org.
