Heritage Trail Will Add

Dorothy West’s Home

The African American Heritage Trail of Martha’s Vineyard will add the former Oak Bluffs home of Harlem Renaissance writer Dorothy West as part of series of events on August 16.

At 2 p.m., Ms. West’s home on Myrtle avenue in The Highlands will be dedicated as a site on the trail.

The dedication will be followed by a tour of the Oak Bluffs sites on the Trail. At 5 p.m., a celebration of the life of Ms. West and the work of the Heritage Trail will be held at the historic Shearer Cottage on Rose avenue in The Highlands.

The trail is sponsoring the event in collaboration with the W.E.B. Du Bois Institute for African and African American Research at Harvard University.
