The opening reception for Elena De La Ville and Traeger diPietro will be held on Saturday, June 28 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Dragonfly Gallery, 91 Dukes County avenue in Oak Bluffs. The show runs through July 6.

Elena De La Ville is an artist, teacher and bee keeper. A former Island resident, Ms. De La Ville’s career brought her to Florida where she teaches at the Ringling School of Art in Sarasota and at the Arts Center in St. Petersburg.

Her Venezuelan roots surface in her mixed media images. Earthy, rich and lush textures mix together in her photography, collage and encaustic mediums. As a beekeeper, she is able to gather and use the beeswax as a prime ingredient in her encaustic creations. Working closely with her bees has inspired her love of the natural world.

Traeger diPietro, an Island painter, returns to the Dragonfly Gallery for a third season. His unrestricted style gives a splash of energy to his canvases. Using thickly layered paint, he constructs images with accents of color and atmosphere. His fascination with the Vineyard is reflected in his newest work.
