It’s time to slip on that great summer cocktail dress you’ve been dying to swirl about in, and school up with other she nymphs on Wednesday, July 16, from 6 to 8 p.m. for Margot Datz’s reception and booksigning of A Survival Guide for Landlocked Mermaid’s, published by Simon and Schuster.

Margot’s Mermaid Martini Birthday Booksigning, hosted by Lola’s and Edgartown Books, will offer whimsical martini specials, books for personal inscription, and an opportunity to celebrate with the author on her birthday. Ms. Datz calls it the siren’s call to all spirited women on the Island, and a wonderful way to meet more of your kind. Mermen are most welcome.

A creative force on the Island for nearly three decades, Ms. Datz’s paintings and murals decorate hundreds of Island homes and businesses.

More than 10 years ago, she began a series of paintings depicting mermaids as an archetypal symbol of modern women.

The public response to this work was so passionate that her book, a collection of these paintings and advice to women, followed.

A Survival Guide for Landlocked Mermaids, an adult picture book for women of all ages, offers compassionate, timeless advice about self care and love, relationships and beyond.
