Oak Bluffs police last Friday charged a Needham man with boating under the influence of alcohol after he reportedly ran his boat aground along Seaview avenue near Sengekontacket Pond. Andrew Tappe, 47, was charged with boating while under the influence of alcohol, negligent operation of a boat and operating an unregistered boat.

Police received a report around 10 a.m. and officer James Morse responded to the scene, where he observed the boat approximately five to ten feet above the mean high water mark. The boat’s throttle was fully forward and the ignition was in the on position at the time the boat came in contact with the shore.

The engine was trimmed up and the navigational lights were illuminated, and the GPS was powered on, police said. The boat was a 27.5-foot Scout with a 225-horsepower engine.
