Former CIA lawyer Vicki Divoll will deliver a talk titled Memo to Our New President: How to Fix Eight Years of Damage to U.S. Intelligence on Wednesday, August 6 at 5:30 p.m. at the Chilmark Public Library.

Ms. Divoll, former assistant general counsel for the CIA and former general counsel of the Senate Intelligence Committee, is presently teaching American government at the United States Naval Academy. She has also served as a fellow at Harvard University Institute of Politics.

As counsel for the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, Ms. Divoll was responsible for developing policy, and drafting and negotiating Title IX of the USA Patriot Act, Improved Intelligence.

In this capacity, she also oversaw operational and policy issues related to international terrorism, covert action, counterintelligence, and electronic surveillance.

As assistant general counsel for the CIA her responsibilities included issues related to overseas covert operations, criminal law, human rights, and interaction among US intelligence agencies and law enforcement. and the use and abuse of leaking classified information.
