Laura Elizabeth Mandell, a daughter of Rae Ann Mandell and Samuel W.W. Mandell of West Tisbury, was married on Saturday August 2 to Luke Antonio Goldworm, a son of Carla D. Goldworm of New York and Palm Beach, Fla., and the late Robert I. Goldworm.

Dain M. Zimmerman, a close friend and theology student, officiated the outdoor ceremony at the Mandells family home in Makonikey on the Vineyard. The ceremony took place cliffside overlooking Vineyard Sound.

The bride and bridegroom met at Emory University in Atlanta, Ga., from which they both graduated.

The bride, who is 28, received a master of science degree in teaching from Fordham University. The bridegroom, who is 29, is a third-year law student at Suffolk University Law School. He also received a master of science degree in protection management from the City University of New York, John Jay College. The couple live and work in Boston.

The bride’s father, now retired, formerly was an attorney with the Stop & Shop Corporation and until recently he was also the co-owner of a small family business on the Vineyard. Her mother, retired from the business she co-owned with her husband, was a former laboratory manager at Gardiner Hematology laboratory at New York University and at the hematology laboratory at New England Medical Center.

The bridegroom’s mother left her job in advertising to raise her children in New York. His late father was a fashion designer and executive for Goldworm Knitwear based in New York and Milan, Italy. He was awarded the Star of Solidarity and the title of commander by the Italian government.
