Art DeLorenzo of Vineyard Haven received the Castleton State College alumni association’s outstanding alumni award at the college’s convocation ceremony, August 28.

Mr. DeLorenzo was recognized for his strong support of Castleton, including his work on the Alumni Association Board as a member and a past president and his contributions to the college’s emerging leaders program. He mentored a group of more than 15 students over the course of four years, concluding in his keynote address at the 2005 commencement.

A 1964 graduate of Castleton, Mr. DeLorenzo was most valuable player on the 1963 national co-champion soccer team. He attended graduate school at Ithaca College and American College.

He retired in 2005 as a vice president at American Express, but still serves as a business consultant.

In making the award, board member Jennifer Jones told students and faculty, “Mr. DeLorenzo has served the college most admirably, and his life accomplishments are a model for current students and alumni.”
