The boys’ and girls’ cross country teams are continuing a tradition of excellence this season, with the boys sporting a 5-0 record and the girls a 4-0 record. For coach Joe Schroeder’s Vineyard team, this year’s impressive run is just the latest in a recent string of dominance.

Last Thursday, both the boys’ and girls’ teams overwhelmed Bishop Connolly in Fall River, each winning the top five slots. Megan Dreyer took first for the girls and Robbie Osmers led the boys.

On Saturday the two teams traveled to Manchester, N.H., for their annual invitational meet, and while they did not take the gold, they sill finished strong.

The girls finished in ninth place out of 24 teams with a score of 261; Dreyer came in 22nd with a time of 21:07; Kim Carlomagno finished in 57th place with a time of in 22:23 and Ellie Hehre finished 60th with a time of 22:39. Other times: Sarah Flanders (78) in 23:30; Hilary Dreyer (79) in 24:33; Julia Sadowski (110) in 24:50; and Emily Smith (116) in 25:14.

The boys finished ninth out of 29 teams. Mark Reppert finished 26th with a time of 17:40; Willie Nevin was 53rd with a time of 18:23 and Max Conley finished 62nd with a time of 18:37. Other times: Anthony Piland (75) in 18:59; Forrest Harcourt (76) in 18:59; Robbie Osmers (78) in 19:00; Michael Kendall (98) in 19:24.

Boys’ Soccer

The boys’ soccer team was dominated on the road by Barnstable Tuesday by a score of 6-0, dropping it record to 2-5-1 on the season. The loss came during the boys’ longest and toughest stretch of road games, which wraps up Monday with a game against Bishop Stang.

“We don’t have a lot of easy games on our schedule . . . there are no gimmes,” coach Bob Hammond said, adding: “This stretch will help define who we are as a team and where we are going.”

Golf

The Vineyard golf team had an up and down week, losing to Dennis Yarmouth at Farm Neck last Thursday and winning easily on the road at Chatham on Monday. The team now stands at 8-4-1 on the season.

The Vineyarders rolled over Chatham Monday, sweeping all six matches. In the first flight Henry Smith won with a score of 7.5 to 1.5, while Luke Pisano was equally dominant with a winning score of 6.5 to 1.5. In the second flight both Sam Scott and Alex Bilzerian won with scores of 8-1. On the third flight Serel Arvin won with a score of 6.5 to 2.5; Chris Davies won 7.5 to 1.5.

Pisano had the overall top score, notching a two-under-par 34.
