Up-Island potter Candy Shweder is opening her studio on Sunday, Oct. 12 from 5 to 7 p.m. There will be pottery demonstrations, wine, cheese and huge reductions on discontinued patterns and items. Candy Shweder studied ceramics in Chicago and California. She has been selling since 1986. She sold her work at the Chilmark Flea Market for 20 years and has been doing the Vineyard Artisans shows for 11 years.

Last year Ms. Shweder built a new studio, a pottery barn, to house Up-Island Pottery, and had her first Columbus Day sale. It took a year for her to fully move in to the new space, a barn inspired by the Agricultural Hall, all pegged together, not nailed.

The artist now invites the public to come see the working studio, with demonstrations of wheel throwing during the sale. The pottery barn is located at 4 Fulling Mill Hill in Chilmark. A mile and a half from Beetlebung Corner on Middle Road, turn on Fulling Mill Road and go down about two-tenths of a mile to Fulling Mill Hill. The barn will be on the left.
