Island Theatre Workshop is celebrating Linda Berg’s achievements as director of the Children’s Theatre program for the past three years and as music director for the 13 preceding years. Festivities will take place at the Sailing Camp on Barnes Road on Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008 from 2 to 5 p.m.

All Islanders are invited to share in this potluck event. Warm cider, coffee, tea, punch and deserts will be provided. Please bring one of your favorite fall dishes to share and enjoy. Copies of the recipe are welcome, and will be consolidated into a recipe book for Linda as a reminder of the day.

Ms. Berg’s gifts of music, drama, energy, and her love for the children of the Island (big and small) have had an impact on many lives. Now she has decided that it is time to have a break, travel and work on some new projects.

A slide show of her various Children’s Theatre productions will be featured, including, from the 2008 season, The Sleeping Prince, Billy and the Angel, and Excalibur (parts 1 and 2), a Mary Payne classic. Ms. Berg wrote the book, lyrics and music for Billy and the Angel and The Sleeping Prince, and she reconstructed the music for Excalibur. As music director, she wrote scores for Lee Fierro’s heralded productions and for those of Mary Payne before her.

In addition to her leadership of Children’s Theatre during the past three years, Ms. Berg enjoys reknown for her tenure as music director of ITW, as well as the organist and music director of the West Tisbury Church and its gospel choir, a pianist and vocal coach. Though Ms. Berg is retiring from the Children’s Theatre, she will continue to enrich the Island’s musical life by her many other musical activities.
