Show time is tonight and it continues through Monday night. The thin crescent moon passes by two planets in the nights ahead.

Tonight the moon appears under Venus. It is a tough sight. The moon is so close to the horizon.

Tomorrow night the show improves as the moon is higher, easier to see, and of equal height from the horizon as Venus.

Monday night is even better. The moon appears close and right under the planet Jupiter.

The western sky will continue to be of interest in the weeks ahead as the two bright planets put on a performance together. Jupiter is in the zodiacal constellation Sagittarius. Venus is moving through the zodiacal constellation Scorpius. The two will get closer and closer together in the weeks ahead.

By the end of November, the two are a tight pair, and both are in residence in Sagittarius.

There are other planets in this area of the sky, though not readily visible. Mars is caught in the glare of the setting sun. Pluto is above Jupiter in the constellation Ophiuchus and barely visible to even those with a high powered telescope. Neptune is to the east of Jupiter in Capricornus and only visible to those who know where to look and have at least a pair of binoculars.
