Kids missing the Christmas tree lights and Hanukkah candles already? Take them to the Martha’s Vineyard Museum on Saturday for the first in a series of winter programs for children called Second Saturdays: Treasures From the Attic.

On the second Saturday of each month, the museum will present Treasures from the Attic, mini-exhibits based on items from the collection, demonstrating how Vineyarders lived in the past. From 10 a.m. to noon, there will be arts and crafts activities for children and families related to the mini-exhibit. The series will take place monthly through June 2009.

Lighting the Way is the first of this series, and it’s on tomorrow. The mini-exhibit will include implements used by Vineyarders in the past to light and warm their lives, including candlesticks and candle molds, lanterns, “sticking Tommys,” foot warmers and more. Children will make decorative candle holders during the morning program. The cost is $5 for members, $10 for nonmembers. Space is limited, so please call 508-627-4441 to register.
