On display at the Steamship Authority’s Vineyard Haven terminal Thursday, Jan. 29 from 4 to 6 p.m. will be a special collection of works by young artists Islandwide. Their subject: Vineyard smiles. The show is meant to be a teaser for National Children’s Dental Health Month, coming up in February. Sponsored by Vineyard Smiles, an oral health initiative of Island Health Inc. and the Vineyard Health Care Access, the purpose of the show is to increase youth awareness of the importance of dental hygiene.

“This is a fun way to get kids to pay attention to a serious issue – their health and well-being. Dental decay is the most common childhood disease and it is also almost entirely preventable. Vineyard kids have high rates of decay and we want to change that. Vineyard Smiles provided affordable dental care to over 400 Island children last year and we will serve even more kids this school year,” said Henrietta McElheny, the program coordinator.

Artists include students from Martha’s Vineyard preschools, grades K through 8, and Boys and Girls Club members. There will be refreshments and a special appearance by the Tooth Fairy! All welcome. For details, call 508-627-5797.
