The musical puppet show The Hole Without A Bottom (O Buraco Sem Fundo) premieres at Che’s Lounge on Sunday, April 5, and will continue every Sunday in April at 11:30 a.m.

Featuring Island performer Bella, The Hole Without A Bottom is an original play adapted from an original story, performed in English and Portuguese. The suggested donation is $5.

The Hole Without A Bottom is an original story written in two languages by Island resident Lynn Weber. A dedicated gardener and former teacher, carpenter and emergency medical technician, Lynn has lived on Martha’s Vineyard year-round since 1972. She speaks five languages and works as a certified medical interpreter in Spanish and Portuguese. The Hole Without A Bottom was inspired by her 13 grandchildren.

Lynn’s story was adapted for a musical play by Bella, a singer and composer. She wrote original songs for the accordion which will be performed live.

The fundamental philosophy expressed in this story inspired a hand-made book as well as this musical. The main characters are Armadillo and Wolf. “The story begins with an Armadillo digging a hole. He is looking for the bottom of this hole with all his might ...”

Bella’s stage set is created through the use of recycled materials. Found objects provide the inspiration and imagination does the rest.

Creating a happy routine for an imaginative audience, puppeteer and musician Bella is developing a new series called Theater in a Bag, a simple way to create and enjoy the performing arts. The musical plays, performed weekly in two languages, are short and intense with original scripts, original songs, and live music. Theater in a Bag hopes to promote art and culture in our community and bring innovative methods to children’s puppet theatre.

Che’s Lounge is located at 38 Main street (the back alley) in Vineyard Haven.
