A family-friendly Circus Yoga workshop will be held on the Vineyard on Saturday, April 11, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Island Co-housing common house on State Road in West Tisbury.

The workshop comes from Anita McFarlane is an actress, dance theatre artist, certified Kripalu yoga teacher, circusyoga teacher and children’s theatre educator.

She promises a dynamic, fun and heartfelt workshop exploring the spirit of yoga and play. Participants will practice group yoga warm ups, and postures together and play some yoga games before getting wild and crazy with family pyramids and flying partner yoga followed by some Thai yoga massage.

The second half of the workshop is focused on circus skills and silliness — including scarf and ball juggling, balancing and clowning. We end with a sweet relaxation.

The suggested donation is $12.

Ms. McFarlane has been teaching theatre to children in New York for Way off Broadway since 2002 and before that for the Vineyard Playhouse and Island Theatre Workshop on Martha’s Vineyard as well as her own designed program, Yoga for Performers, for the young company at the American Stage Festival in New Hampshire.

She has performed for The Yard and Built on Stilts dance festival. She has directed children’s programs for Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health where she created a varied program that included yoga, circus, theatre and art. Her Circus Yoga workshops are popular with adults and kids in New York, on Long Island and in Sag Harbor at Rodney and Colleen Yee’s Yoga Shanti. She is a published and produced playwright and has been awarded over 20 local and national arts council grants in the U.S. and her native Canada. As an actress, audiences have enjoyed her performances in New York, Boston, Toronto, Dublin, Edinburgh, Moscow and Martha’s Vineyard.
