Boston winemaker turned Burgundy prodigy Alex Gambal will make his debut on Martha’s Vineyard on Wednesday, May 13, at the Sweet Life Café before heading to the Nantucket Wine Festival for his already sold-out tasting event the following night.

The evening is a benefit wine dinner for the artists-in-the-schools program at The Yard, which brings extraordinary performers now to every Island school for special student workshops.

Owners Susan and Pierre Guérin are excited both to host Mr. Gambal and to support The Yard’s schools program. “The arts are often neglected in times of economic difficulty; however, we don’t want this to be the case on the Island and certainly not in the schools,” Ms. Guérin said in a statement.

The wine dinner will begin with an aperitif and hors d’oeuvre, followed by a four-course menu specially prepared to highlight the wines from Alex Gambal.

In hardly 10 years, Mr. Gambal has made his mark as an American winemaker in Burgundy, earning the respect of his French colleagues. He has become recognized as a regular and qualitative producer of the Cote de Beaune in Burgundy. While the quantity may be limited, the irreproachable quality of his boutique wines have been celebrated internationally by journalists, collectors and connoisseurs.

The Yard’s artistic director, Wendy Taucher, added: “By hosting the fundraiser at the Sweet Life Café, theGuérins help to ensure [we are] able to extend the program to every school on the Island each year and not just select one or two schools as in the past.”

The prix fixe menu with wine is $85, excluding tax and gratuity. For reservations, call 508-696-0200.
