Well, Memorial Day weekend has now come and gone, and I guess summer is officially on. It was a week early but someone forgot to tell Mother Nature, as instead of the weather getting warmer, it got colder. I can not remember the last time I actually turned the heat up in the house at the end of May.

Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Anna Marques and Ryan Murray, who celebrate their day May 25; Nathaniel Garcia and Christopher Pitt, May 26; William Trapp, May 27; Niccolas Cardoza, May 29; and to Michelle Herrick, May 31.

Special wishes go out to Kristina Ivory who celebrated her day May 27. Kristina, who turned 22, works at the Oak Bluffs library.

Congratulations to Ryan Barbini, who graduated May 17 from Tufts University with a Master of Science in Engineering Management. Ryan is the husband of Chelsea Barbini and father of son Taylor, and the son of Richard and Jane Barbini. Congratulations, Ryan, we are all proud of you.

The weekend came and went fast. It was great to see the people who came to open their houses.

I am sure many people had company over the weekend, myself being one of them. My niece Amanda and her friend Meghan came for the weekend and it was Amanda’s first visit in a long time. Amanda just graduated from paramedic school and is now waiting to take her state test. Now she hopes she can visit more often. She worked at the Boys’ and Girls’ Club for two summers and also volunteered on the ambulance as an EMT, so she is anxious to catch up with everyone.

Paul Carrick’s illustrations and copies of his new book, Watch Out for Wolfgang, are now on display at The Red Barn Gallery on County Road in West Tisbury. Paul was born on the Vineyard and attended the old grammar school in Edgartown.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
