Artists Traeger di Pietro and Adam Thompson are featured in the Dragonfly Gallery’s new Rising Stars show, which opens tonight and runs through July 12.

Adam Thompson, whose interest in painting began during summers spent with his family at their Trinity Park Camp Ground cottage, studied under the tutelage of artist Charles Danielson. Over the years, Mr. Thompson’s art has evolved from highly textured expressionist landscapes with bold colors and shapes, to a more stark, architectural and graphic style.

Mr. Thompson will talk about his art on Sunday, July 5 at 4 p.m. at Dragonfly, as part of a continuing free programThe talk and all other Dragonfly events are free to the public.

When Traeger di Pietro’s aspirations to play college baseball were sidelined by a sports injury, he developed a passion for painting and changed his major to art. Upon graduating, Mr. di Pietro moved to the Vineyard and began taking drawing classes at Featherstone and has been a prolific painter ever since. His art portrays real Vineyard people: clam-diggers and fishermen.

Refreshments, beverages, and fine art will be served all day during Dragonfly’s open house weekend, Saturday, July 4 and Sunday, July 5, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Call 508-693-8877, or visit mvdragonfly.com.
