Dr. Amaryllis Iglesias Glass, one of the staff pianists at the Tabernacle, will present a concert with her mother, Amaryllis Iglesias, tonight, July 24, at 8 p.m. A freewill offering will be taken.

Amarylllis Glass won the Schumann Competition in the Johanna Hodges International Piano Competition in 1982 and has performed with the Florida International Symphony Orchestra. 

Amaryllis Sr. began her piano studies at age four; at 12 she went to the Conservatory Carlos Alfredo Peyrellade in Cuba. At the age of 14, Amaryllis won the Silver award with the opportunity to perform Mozart’s Coronation Concerto with the Habana Symphony Orchestra. The following year she won the Gold.

At age16, she l eft Cuba for political reasons and was accepted into the Don Pablo Casals Conservatory of Puerto Rico in San Juan. She moved to New Jersey and married high school sweetheart Lazaro Iglesias. She has three children, the oldest of whom is Amaryllis.
