Not only are Bruce and Dolly Campbell enjoying the long visit of their New Zealand family and bonding with grandbaby Silas, their talented daughter Tori’s film, House of Bones, a Vineyard memoir, will be shown on Tuesday night at the Tabernacle. This is part of our Martha’s Vineyard Film Society’s summer program. Call 774-392-2972 for more information.

The flyer says for kids age eight and up, no cap on the up, so you know I’ll be there. Tomorrow from 3 to 5 p.m. at our library, Bruce Riseborough will help us make Lego robots. One of my greatest pleasures is to play with my son’s Legos, a toy I’m never giving away. But to build a robot? Awesome! I’ll see you there.

The Scottish Society of Martha’s Vineyard is having an “Old Ways” celebration at the P.A. Club tomorrow to benefit our high school scholarship fund. All you performers are invited to bring an instrument, a song, a poem or story to share at the open mike. If you would like to show off your skill with desserts, bring them also. The suggested donation is $15, call Cynthia at 508-955-9024 if you need more information.

This is certainly a busy weekend. The Rotary Club’s 38th annual antiques show and sale opened yesterday and will continue through August 2 at the Edgartown School. This popular event benefits the Martha’s Vineyard Museum, Island Affordable Housing, and the Boys’ and Girls’ Club.

Put your thinking caps on and see if you recognize this wonderful film, to be shown for free at our library at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, August 4: an Alfred Hitchcock classic adaptation of a Daphne DuMaurier novel, starring Lawrence Olivier and Joan Fontaine. This is one of my favorites. I’ll see you there.

We are all invited to join cochairs Rose Styron, Geraldine Brooks and Charlayne Hunter-Gault on Wednesday, August 5 from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. for Tea and Advocacy at Tower Hill, Edgartown, overlooking the harbor. Shuttle busing service will be provided to the site. The purpose is to raise funds for our hospital and the National Breast Cancer Coalition. Call 508-693-4645 for more information or visit online StopBreastCancer.org/vineyard.

Our condolences go out to the families and friends of two of the greatest people I ever had the pleasure to know: Jack Ware and Rosemary Whiting. The world won’t be the same without them.

Martha Dunham continues to recover at home after surgery for her broken ankle. You can imagine how hard that is for this avid gardener and active lady.

The birthday bandwagon pulls along Gale Grain Monk and Tony Radoszeski today. Tomorrow is shared by Arthur Strople, Gisele Nascimento, and Kelsey Anne Hunter. August 2 belongs to Sam Marlin and Seniel Seward. August 3 is a party for this reporter [Editor’s note: Happy birthday, Nancy!], Will Sherman, Tom Colligan Sr., Lucas Brunelle, Greg Cimeno and Sharon Coogan and her twin, Patty Roddy. August 4 honors Barack Obama, Elaine Klein, and Don Mitchell. August 5 is for Alicia Maciel, Susan Klein, Janet Alley, Tommer Willems and Jennifer Kaufman. And on August 6 Angelo Stoudemire, Beverley Ann Brush, Ashleigh Poirier and Virginia Jannace Malara take the cake. Many happy returns.
