Armed Robbery Charges

Oak Bluffs police earlier this month arrested two young men who reportedly robbed a taxi driver at knife point and then made off with approximately $150 in cash.

Demetrio Garcia, 17, of Oak Bluffs, was arraigned in Edgartown district court on August 7 on charges of armed robbery, assault to rob while armed and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. A plea of not guilty was automatically entered on Mr. Garcia’s behalf.

A second juvenile suspect was also charged in connection with the August 4 taxi robbery; police did not release his name because of his age.

According to court documents, the two suspects called Your Taxi to arrange a pickup on lower Circuit avenue. The driver responded to the area but first stopped at a pizza takeout place. When he returned to his vehicle two men were sitting in the back seat, both wearing dark clothing. The two men were later apprehended by police.

At the arraignment earlier this month Mr. Garcia was ordered to be held $15,000 bail.
